Below is a sampling of the many types of projects I've designed over the years. Please visit my Facebook page for more examples of my designs.

The photo shown here is from my backyard, aka my playground for design and gardening.

Contemporary flare to a functional centerpiece

This landscape design in Dallas, TX was primarily to add a front circle drive to the property to aid in parking for a growing family of drivers. Using sustainable landscape design techniques, the materials of concrete and Texas black star gravel were designed to allow in-ground rainwater recapture between the concrete sections. The front porch was enlarged to fit the scale of the front entry and dramatic planters were added. The front foundation beds were raised, made larger and planted with plants complimenting the the client's aesthetic.

Photography studio's outdoor set

Designing an outdoor set for a photography studio was a real treat and challenge. The clients wanted mostly perennial plants that were soft and would have movement. They also asked for several points of interest to take photographs like the greenhouse, arbor, benches and trellises with vines. Low-maintenance, drought tolerant plants and pollinator garden design are represented here.

Natural elements update an overgrown garden

New planting plans were a big part of this design to replace the overgrown older shrubs creating a low maintenance front yard landscape. The client desired the light and airy feel with spaces between plants. The most impactful element was replacing the standard prefabricated landscape blocks on the raised beds walls with natural stone. We also placed large boulders to create a naturalistic feel. Zoysia grass replaced the previous turf grass. In the backyard we added a long bed with beautiful magnolias, shrubs and many grasses. A patio cover was designed for a future spa, but was not installed.

Softening the contemporary

This project, a landscape design in Dallas, TX, turned out beautifully. The clients wanted more natural and soft elements mixed into their very minimalist and contemporary space. We stayed with the modern style and added more in-ground plant materials and reduced the artificial turf area. A passage from the front entry directly to the backyard and a new barbecue space were added.

Harmonizing a traditional home with contemporary touches

When a client with contemporary tastes desires an elevated feel to their traditional home landscaping a little harmonizing of two or more styles can skillfully come together. Low concrete planters, sandstone square pavers and linearly set plants contribute to the contemporary elements. Moss boulders, natural chopped stone edging and curved bed edges soften the aesthetic. Sustainable landscape design techniques were used artistically to create this striking low maintenance front yard landscape.
